National Ploughing Championship
The National Ploughing Championships is one of Europe’s largest outdoor exhibitions and agricultural Trade Shows.
The first national ploughing championship took place between County Wexford and County Kildare in 1931, since then this has been extended to over 800 acres.
Although the "Ploughing Match" competition is the main event each year where expert international ploughmen pit their skills against one another, it is also a massive trade show, and the largest outdoor event of its kind in Europe.
Exhibitions vary from livestock and machinery to trade stalls, craft stalls, vintage and classic motors, fashion shows, interior design and art exhibitions.
The festival attracts on average over 1,500 exhibitors and 280,000 visitors from Ireland and all over the world.
By hosting the 2017 National Ploughing Championships event, Screggan in County Offaly is once again set to receive a €40 million boost to the local economy.
Showcasing Irish Food, Farming and Culture, this event incorporates all sectors of agriculture and rural living from the latest development in Agri. Machinery to a comprehensive showcase of Livestock Breeds, Animal Husbandry and Management, Motors, Forestry, Bio Energy, Business Management and Regulatory Bodies.
The 2017 85th National Ploughing Championships will take place in Screggan, Tullamore, Co Offaly from the 19th-21st September, and is only 30 minutes’ drive from the Maldron Hotel Portlaoise.
